Toddler Talk

The days of pointing at everything to communicate.....

Luka has been talking quite a bit more this past week. He is putting a lot more sentence together and loves to add -ee sound at the end of his words...Her are a few examples:

  • pineapples-ee
  • water-ee
  • bubbles-ee
  • hold-ee (hold me)
  • cookies-ee
I think it is so stinkin' cute but Justin thinks I should stop encouraging him to use -ee at the end of everything. Luka is also learning quite a bit of Croatia and uses it at the appropriate times which is very exciting. :) His favorite word is GUC when he wants a sip of our or his drink....

Today while I was trying to clean our floors I had our Swifer out and I knew Luka was going to ask to play with it. He loves to help clean and we have Mimi to thank for that :). He said: "(Luka)Uka down...clean floor". Before getting him down from his chair I decided to take out the bottle that is attached to the swifer so that he doesn't actually spray the floors. Since he was not having any of that I decided to just unplug the bottle from the swifer and use a hair band to hold it up (so it looks like all the parts are there)...

I thought I had it all figured out...Well....Luka got excited, decided to push the button to spray and decided to check if anything came out...At that point I knew I was in trouble. :) When he noticed that I tried to trick him he turned around to me and said: "Mama, make it fit..." as in "make the bottle fit in the swifer the way it should be....". I couldn't help but laugh.

I love that I can now ask him to bring me the phone when it rings, I love that he loves to be our little messenger when Justin and I are in different rooms, I love how much he loves to help,I love how much he loves Abby and how he always tells her what to do...Today she stole his cheese cracker and I immediatley heard "Mama A-bee my bite"...then she did it again....he lectured her for a while " No No No A-bee....Go A-bee...Outside A-be" . I love that it is becoming easier to know what he wants...I love hearing the words "THIS" when he is not sure what something is....I love that he always wants us to " SHIT there" ----(Luka's word for sit - we are working on it)....when he is playing. There are defintiley times when I am pretty sure we are arguing because he tries so hard to tell us something and if we can't figure it out Luka gets so frustrated.

We are not particularry enjoying the fact that every time the pantry door opens, anytime we eat or basically all day every day he begs us for cookies....

Sissy on the other hand loves to scream at the top of her lungs to communicate...

4 more days of school...before SUMMER BREAK!!!!

I am beyond excited about finishing the last week of school next week. I have been so frustrated and mad and exhausted this week that I am ready to get my time off from having to explain over and over again why I require the kids to be responsible and why I have high expectations. Is that not ridiculous?

At the end of each year as I look at my students I feel so proud as I reflect on how much they have grown and things they have accomplished. This year is not any different...I am so proud of my kids BUT I definitely have not been feeling the "love" from my parents...

It will be a busy week for sure but with the light at the end of the tunnel so close I have convinced myself that I can handle all the end of the year stress, parents, paperwork, last minute issues....

I am taking Monday off so I only really have 3 days with the kids and 4 days total of work....This year has been a good one overall but as always I am ready to spend time with MY precious family and enjoy all the little things I miss on daily basis.

YIPEEE!!!

This is where the story begins......(recent picture taken few days ago)

Eleven years ago...the last week of May 1998..... while babysitting my sweet nephew Nik (who was 4 at the time) I spent my first day at the community pool down the street from our new family home. I was excited about getting some tan, I was excited about the summer, I was excited about being done with my freshmen year of high school, I was excited to have my two best friends spend the summer with me in my new hometown.....I was 14.....so care free....no job...no huge responsibilities...just watching sweet chubby little Nik and having a great time with my two best friends.......

Going to the pool was something I was looking forward to for a while...never did I expect a bunch of hunky high school lifeguards there when I walked in that very first weekend....That was definitley a huge bonus :)

The entire summer...I mean the ENTIRE summer I was there when the pool opened at noon and I left at closing....Why? Let me tell you why.....That entire summer I watched and stared and smiled at a very special boy...:) I was falling in love day by day, smile by smile....I knew quite a bit about him even though we never actually said anything to each other...I was too nervous to say Hi and smiling is all we were comfortable enough to do....He drove down my street when he was headed to work every day and would drive by on his way back home...I would get butterflies every time I would see a car like his on the road....

Justin - 1998

Now here comes the creepy part of being a silly 14 year old foreign girl....I would even go back to the park in front of the community pool after regular pool hours because I knew the lifeguards had evening birthday parties and other activities they had to be there for....I would ride my bike ...go roller skating and even use basketball as an excuse to go by there with my two best friends. They had their secret crushes as well and we had nothing better to do.... Please remember we were 14 and from another country :) I remember one evening we decided to go roller skating to the park and while staring and trying to figure out (from a very long distance) if my sweet boy was on duty that evening (his car was not there for some reason).... I lost my balance on my roller skates and banged my eye on a metal post. YES, I earned my very first black eye because of this very sweet boy....I remember by the time I made it home my eye was completely shut and my friends wouldn't stop laughing.. I looked like I wore purple/green eyeshadow for about a week.

Creepy Tamara # 2 moment of that very same summer - I totally memorized his license plate and still do this date remember it TJF21D

Heck my entire family knew about JUSTIN BATES that summer!!!

The summer came to an end and that sweet boy went off to college...I never stopped thinking about him and every time I would see a Jeep Wrangler on the roads of Rowlett I secretly wondered if that was him!

Never in a million years (at only 14 years old) could I have known that this sweet boy who had the best tan and gorgeous blue eyes...this boy who would turn around in his lifeguard seat to smile back at me all the time ... would some day become my husband, the father of my children, my soulmate and the love of my life!

Exactly a year later I headed back to that same swimming pool in my cute little green/blue bathing suit hoping and praying that he would be back...I walked up to pay for my ticket and saw him....in his red lifeguard shorts....as cute as I remembered from the summer before....I remember my nervous laugh...the butterflies in my stomach...

Our very first picture together...I was too nervous to smile and didn't realize it!

We stared at each other all day....Before the end of the day...right before closing time he decided to break out of his shy shell and send a friend to talk to me...I gave him my phone number and literally went home hopping and skipping out of excitement. He called that same evening and as soon as the phone rang my family and some family friends all screamed JUSTIN BATES!!!! ***I did lie about my age for a few days...:) I was 15 and I told him I was 18....OOPS!

We tried setting up a date and when the time finally came for it I got sick and had to cancel...he called me to say that it was okay and not to feel bad....I remember thinking "He is so sweet"...During that very same conversation he told me to go look on my door step real quick...As I was walking out of my room my Dad was already bringing me a little something he found in front of our door....there it was.... the sweetest card and a rose waiting for me ...That was the exact moment I knew I was going to marry this sweet boy! :) I also think that was the moment Justin won my family's heart :) They uhhhhh-ed and awwwwww-ed and fell in love with him and the way he treated me...

Tuesday June 1st, 1999 was the official beginning of " Justin and Tamara"....Details of our first official date-he came to pick me up in his brother's red mustang.....I remember his smell...I remember the bright yellow Polo shirt and plaid shorts....I remember my entire family and two best friends peeking through the window when we were walking to his car....I remember him opening my door and all of them freaking out...He couldn't see them but I could...So embarrassing! I remember him grabbing my hand for the first time that evening ...I remember forgetting the little English I knew at the time because I was so nervous...

We had the best summer together...so young... and SO in love....My all time favorite memory of that summer was actually right before he went off to college- walking by the lake...I started crying because he was only few days away from leaving to start his sophomore year at SFA....It happened like this: We are at the park...right by the lake...nobody around...so quiet...perfect night sky...Justin starts slow dancing in the middle of our walk and singing to me...."The Dance" by Garth Brooks....OH MY GOODNESS!That was about the sweetest way he could have reassured me that we were going to stay together even though the summer was ending.... Just thinking about it gives me the same butterflies in my stomach I had back then....

The exact spot where we danced....
The lake/park from the bridge

The very special place we will be telling Luka and Mia all about some day....

Exactly four years later (JUNE 1st, 2003) in front of our family and friends we exchanged our vowes and become husband and wife.....On our wedding day Justin surprised me by singing (this time in front of all of our family and friends) " I Cross My Heart" by George Strait at our reception....11 years after we saw each other for the first time... God has blessed us with a beautiful son and daughter....now the songs you hear the most often around our house are " Jesus Love Me" and " The Itsy Bitsy Spider" but I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Finally time to catch up....

Warning: PICTURE OVERLOAD

As I mentioned earlier the babies have not been feeling too great for the past week. Luka came down with strep and a stomach virus and Mia has also had some kind of stomach bug. At this point we are about ready to be done with all the blow out diapers. We really expected Luka to feel better by now but he still is not acting like himself. He runs random fevers even though he is on medicine and is really out of it during the day. I am not even going to talk about the extent of his crankiness during the past week and a half...Poor baby boy!

So let's back up a little ....

May 15th - The weekend started with Daddy hanging out with his buddies while the kiddos and I had some Mommy and Me time at home. I was so exhausted from the week at school that staying home in our PJs sounded like a wonderful plan.

May 16th - We went to sweet Isabelle's 2nd birthday party and had so much fun seeing The Hargrove family :) They are dear to our hearts and we really hope to see more of them now that Justin is feeling better and I am about to be out for the summer. Mia and Luka both really enjoyed the cupcakes (Mia took a handful of my cupcake while I was busy taking pictures) and Luka even got a little pool action.

Yummy - ice cream and cupcakes :)

That same evening Momma enjoyed a night out with her fifth grade team. Karen, Jeff, Lisa, Bitner and Claudia - thank you for awonderful year!!!We went to Dave and Busters in Dallas and as always had a fun time filled with lots and lots of laughter. Thanks Daddy for watching the babies!!! You are the BEST!

May 17th - we made it to church once again as a family...I have had the biggest issue remembering and keeping up with times of showers and birthday parties that I goofed up once again...I had to leave church in the middle of class to hustle and get the decorations from home I was in charge of for a friend's shower in ABF. GO TAMARA!!! I know, I know.....I got myself a planner and hope to really do better from this point on.

Luka found Mommy's sunglasses when we got home from church.

Hangin' out with Brobee

After church we took a long nap and woke up just in time to head to Daddy's last two softball games of the season. We had a blast hanging out with Emily, Sara and sweet Emma. Luka of course preferred Emma's snack over his own and kept asking Sara for MO (more). He also loved Emma's bubble no spill cup :)

Eating goldfish at the game...

Trying to impress Emma by doing pull ups...

Giving his Daddy "far away bumps"

Daddy giving Luka bumps back before going to bat

Oh COME ON!!! ( at one of the plays)

Mia found someone to love on...soon to be Mr. and Mrs. Samuels (Josh and Emily)

The week of May 18th- I survived the last bit of tutoring and our very last TAKS administration! YAY!!! I am looking forward to teaching science ONLY next year and taking a break from math . The scores for Science came in this week as well and our school did GREAT. SUch a nice way to end the year! I was so proud of my kids! I love how excited Justin gets and how over the years he has learned to share my joy when the scores finally come back.

Jeremy, Kaylee and Christian came over to hang out one evening and Luka had a blast. Those three took our playroom apart in a hurry but had so much fun. Luka loves older kids and just couldn't get enough of them. Kaylee even managed to have the boys lay down and pretend sleep.

Playing "house and family" with Kaylee and Christian

Luka and Mia were sweet enough to wait with getting sick until the day after TAKS...On Wednesday, I had to leave school early to take Luka Bear to Dr. Katz office. He tested positive for strep and based on a few other symptoms they determined he had a stomach virus as well. At this point he was not cranky - just wanted to be carried and loved on. On our way home we stopped by Target to pick up his prescription...and of course had to find a way to cheer the little man up. We got a huge 3 liter bottle of bubbles, a bubble car and the no spill cup Luka fell in love with that Emma had that weekend.

Bubbles make it all better!

Such a serious job!

After coming home, we just sat outside and blew bubbles until I started getting dizzy. Next time I am just going to get the bubble gun that my mom's neighbor has and is waaaaay easier to use when you have a child who is so obsessed with bubbles. Verything is "MO BUBBLS" these days....or "LAWNMOR"

On Saturday we just stayed at home which was AWESOME since we have been so busy the last few weekends. We layed out in the front yard with the kids - which is one of their favorite things to do lately. We took naps, played with the babies and just decided to take it easy. I wore the kids out so much with playing and singing Saturday morning that they both fell asleep in the middle of Mia's room....in the middle of playing....

Mia fell asleep in the middle of crawling and Luka pooped out after telling me " Momma no shing (don't sing)...Momma...scaaatch pls (please sctrach my back)

I love how much Luka is talking now and now that he is putting words together on his own I love hearing....go outside...no sing Momma....scratch please.....favorite words of the week: Uka (Luka), No, No, No....(always in sets of three), airplane, diaper, love you, thank you, eyes, nose,A-BE (Abby), bite, daj me (give me in Croatian), baci ball (baci means throw).......

On Sunday we made it to church again and are proud to report that Mr. Luka made it through the entire hour in the nursery. He did much better when we dropped him off this time and we can see how it will continue to get easier the more consistent we become. Yes, he refused once again to get out of the big group stoller thing( he loves that thing!)and had to be carried by this super sweet lady for the second part of the hour....When we picked him up, he told her Thank You and blew her kisses...What a HUGE step!!! We are so proud of you Luka Michael!!!

Miss Mia is starting the seperation anxiety stage and she was upset when I handed her over to her nursery teacher. Her eyes got red in a hurry, tears were coming fast and she kept saying Ma....Ma.....Ma...Oh so sad! She has called us both by names a few times so far and as adorable and precious as that is it is so sad when she doesn't want us to leave. Since we are talking about our little Miss I have to mention how good she is at crawling and pulling up after only one official week of "really " crawling. Oh my...that girl makes it from one end of the room to the other in no time. She will also pull herself up in no time using anything within her reach....furniture, toys, bare walls....I am getting so nervous because she is not afraid of anything. I cannot keep up with our little lady and am getting a little nervous :) about my summer with two very mobile babies.

Sunday afternoon we spent with Justin's family. We had lunch together and had the kids swim in Mimi and Papa's pool for the first time this year. Mia L-O-V-E-D it... while brother was a little more hesitant. He loves to hang out with Daddy while Mia doesn't care at all if anyone is near her in the pool.

May 25th - Memorial Day: we headed to the Ft. Worth Zoo with the kids right after breakfast. The trip did not go as well as we had hoped with Luka being very cranky after sunscreen got in his little eye. As soon as we pulled in to the parking lot the meltdowns started... OUCH! Luka wanted Daddy to carry him the entire time while Mia slept in the stroller for the most part. Luka loved the monkeys- he kept saying "Bye Bye Monke"! He really suprised me with the nmber of animals he recognized. He was very polite and told everyone bye as we left to move on to the next animal..... We also ran into Jason Witten (Dallas Cowboy...Tony Romo's buddy) and his family at the zoo so that was pretty cool.. Mommy did not charge the camera so we only got a few pictures and as you can tell they are not great quality....:(

Baby girl at the Zoo

When we got home the boys took a long nap while Mia and I just hang out and played.

Mia playing while the boys were napping...this toy is her new obsession....

We used our little kiddie sprinkler toy for the first time that afternoon and Luka loved seeing Mommy and Daddy be goofy and run through the water.

Justin doing spins ...hard to catch the full shot....Luka couldn't stop laughing

Not sure about being wet, doing spins with Mommy and having to sit on the grass without a blanket

Luka had so much fun!

Mr. Mad when the fun had to stop...

That evening while Justin had some alone time with his baby girl, Luka and I headed to take my mom to the airport. Luka LOVED the airport....he is obsessed with planes, loved riding the escalator and through the train was waaaay awesome. As we were pulling up to the airport he was beside himself at all the planes flying so low....he kept saying BYE BYE AIRPLANE...... Who knew that this kid would have more fun at the airport than at the zoo?

Yes, the kids were cranky but we still managed to have lots of family fun! Have a wonderful week!

Reading books
Such a little boy

Luka's bubble car

Priceless

  • Going to WalMart and Home Depot with your family - FUN
  • Luka throwing a temper tantrum in public - NOT FUN
  • Justin reaching under my seat to get a card he dropped and getting his fingers covered in some leftover melted old chocolate - PRICELESS!!!
  • The look on his face - Oh SO Funny!!!

Oh my gosh I laughed so hard and my sweet hubby couldn't help it either. Yes, I do have issues with keeping my car clean and having two babies definitely did not make that issue any better. I finally cleaned out my car this past weekend because Justin was going to drive it while my sister and her family took his Tahoe camping....Well, I guess I did not find the old chocolate pieces under my seat...OOPS!

Our very first Blog Award!

How exciting is this!!! I received this blog award from Pretty Personal Gifts blog. Thank you so much!

I have been super excited about this and wanted to post earlier but with the babies sick (strep and stomach virus) I have not had time to do much of anything but change blow out diapers, clean up vomit and give lots and lots of baths. :) Both Luka and Mia are doing better even though they are still in a really cranky mood for the most part. This evening has been interesting to say the least...:) I hope to catch up with blogging this coming up week. :)

The rules are as follows and I will try to do my best to find people to pass this award to over the next week or so....

1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link.
